I have a PhD in Computer Science from Birkbeck College at the University of London. The key research goal of my thesis was the use of automatically acquired semantic resources to drive creative natural language generation. I explored this and other threads of research in NLG and NLP in the context of an application called enigma which automatically generates cryptic crossword clues.
I currently work at Green Energy Options, a Cambridge-based company making products which enable users to visualise and manage their energy consumption. I briefly worked as a Research Programmer in the Natural Language Generation Group within the Faculty of Maths and Computing of the OU. Prior to that I worked for five years at CHP Consulting, an IT consultancy in London, and from 1996 I worked for the Depaul Trust as a nightshelter care worker and manager.
